Are people less receptive or are we less compassionate?

If you ever sit down to watch the evening news, you may find yourself shaking your head in disdain. The stories of sin and degradation are seemingly endless. Children shoot their parents, parents molest their kids, teachers rape their students, students murder their teachers, demon-possessed gunmen shoot up churches, frustrated mothers leave their children by the side of the road, and all the while, we shake our heads for a slight moment and then, simply return to our routines.

We dismiss the evening news superstars as “those crazy people” and we tell ourselves that the world is getting more and more anti-Christ. But, when was the last time your heart ached for one of “those” people? When was the last time the compassion of Christ overtook you? Jesus came to seek and to save that which was lost.

Seeking is intentional. When was the last time you intentionally sought out a sinner? Are people less receptive or are we less compassionate?

Yours in introspection,

  1. I strongly believe that the compassion that Jesus the Christ exemplified while on earth is lacking in most of our churches today. Take a minute to read a few excerpts from my recently released book entitled, "Unto the Least of These", which addresses this very issue.
